there is another dedicated chess computer tournament i am doing in the moment,
with the older machines, with lower ELO.

most machines having weaker programs, no permanent brain or very strange looking machines.

If Hanimex HCG1900 {Brettcomputer} is able to get 9.5/11, surely it should be over 1500? 1500 is relative scale rather than fixed.

That dedicated unit might even be 1800 who knows.

you are absolutely right swami,
when i began this tournament there were mainly programs like

Intelligent chess
Chess challenger voice
RFT SC2
and others in it.

these programs are the very EARLY dedicated chess computers and
have no permanent brain and very small and weaker programs.

too less ELO to put them in the main tournament. there they would get no point at all.
so i did this tournament... and in the beginning called it under 1500 tournament.

step by step, i got more machines, even the mark V and the hanimex which contains the Richard Lang 8Bit
program on Z80 A with 4 mhz.

To my own surprise even on the z80A, richard langs program seems to have good
chances to win the tournament.
i was so happy about the nice games and the nice dedicated chess computer,
its a very unique looking machine, that i played many games.

it can be that it gets a higher elo in my tournament than it is expected to get.
please see that i am playing in 40/120 and not 30" per move, as many others do.
this is a big difference, playing 30 or 180 " a move.

factor 6.

so the title of the tournament is maybe no 100% ok, i can later change it.

what i mainly mean is: i have a tournament with the top machines from my collection,
and a tournament for the weaker machines, nevertheless these machines are very interesting
such as the intelligent chess, or the Mark V , or the the hanimex 1900 alias CXG 2001.

i did not have the time to write an article about it here in english.
but i soon will do. also with own pictures from the machines and
my friends Uli, Udo and Siggi while we do the tournaments with these
nice machines.

you might like to ask somebody to play about 10 games with Hanimex HCG1900 to see what the real rating is.

Does it perform better than, say, ChessGenius on your Nokia mobile?

Swami, my nokia mobile with genius is 350 mhz fast.
as far as i understand the hanimex1900/chess2001 CPU the z80a with 4mhz equals the 6502 with 2 mhz.
thats the area of the constellation.

we will see how this develops. the fun is THAT we don't know what will happen.
the machine was the big surprise in the tournament.

although it is a plastic machine, it looks absolutely marvellous:

Hi Thorsten,

Nice Richard Lang's "Cyrus chess program" computer that you have there. I am also very proud of mine. You are right for a plastic dedicated chess computer it does look and feels great. I love the auto sensory response on the machine and the plastic chess pieces are just great with great magnets. I often use the pieces on other boards for convenience as well.

there is a new entry in my tournament: the Steinitz encore 4 mhz.

i do now have a very interesting machine in the tournament.

i had a broken MGS Sargon 2.5 and steve upgraded it into a Steinitz 4 mhz
by replacing the mainboard etc.

so far steinitz has 3 from 3. but of course, stronger opponents will
come and it will be interesting to see how steinitz plays constellation
or MK5 or hanimex or excel display.

in the 70ties his Chess4.7 was a very famous beast and won e.g. the 2nd computerchess-championship in toronto.

it should have been sold in 1984 for 698 DM (350 Euro).

Next opponent is the well known Fidelity Excel Display,
from 1988.

It has the chess program "clone" of the Spracklen Family and
a 16KB Rom engine , with 2 KB ram, running with 6502 kind of CPU
and 3 mhz speed.
