I have took a look at the sources, and I have to say that I really appreciate that this author choosed to post the source code, it seems to be the only one lately. I have got my personal "impression" from them, of course, but this is secondary against the important choice to publish the sources, so I congrat with him and wish him to continue to have fun with Gull !

I didn't analyzed gull deeply so I prefer do not handwave here, I appreciate sources are public and author is not playing hiding. This is very positive and I think he deserves credit just for this choice.

From technical point of view many choices, from move generation to layout of the search seems inspired by other engines but it means nothing, author could have written all that from scratch, it is not a problem to be inspired by some other engine while building up your one. And in any case I cannot state anything serious because I have not analyzed the engine and I am not willing to do it.
