Tomg, you hit the nail on the head. Some engine are just too sharp for analysis of human games. My engine of choice is Shredder 12. Strong, rock solid positional chess. Recommended moves just seem to make sense. I have also heard good things about Hiarcs but I'm abit superstitious and I can't stand the number that comes after 12. I do like to supplement Shredder with something a bit more attack oriented. This is where I like to use Junior 12. Junior is a great engine for generating ideas.
Here is a game illustrating why I like Junior. Shredder thinks black is almost 2 pawns down at about move 20. Somehow Junior comes up with some crazy attacking ideas and saves the game.

Cool Game! Junior does come up with great ideas especially regarding human games. Hiarcs is a great engine for analysis. My main three are Hiarcs, Junior and Shredder. Both for playing against and for analyzing my games and other human games. I have noticed that Shredder can be a pessimistic engine when analyzing and that is a good thing in that it helps to weigh against Junior's exploits.

But that's like saying that that you like the taste of hot dogs better than hamburgers even though you've never tasted a hamburger.
