NO Sub forums...
NO Sub forums...
Let me be extreme: no only few, but not sub-fora at all is what I think better. As I explained without success many times in CCC, the serendipity that brings the fact to mix everything in just one place is far superior to the narrow mentality of a department store CEO. It is not simply a matter of avoiding clicks, but of avoiding boredom, specialization and lack of mutual insemination.

Re: NO Sub forums...
I agree also. I would much prefer just one forum, "Computer Chess".

One exception is the "programmers forum". This makes sense of course.

Re: NO Sub forums...
Programmers tend to like structure and hate clutters. I understand why the many sub-forums. End users want simplicity. Am sure a balance between both can be reached.

I think hardware, platforms, engines, GUI and opening books forums could be merged altogether to form a single unit.kingliveson wrote:Programmers tend to like structure and hate clutters. I understand why the many sub-forums. End users want simplicity. Am sure a balance between both can be reached.

I agree, too many sub-forums makes it to time consuming to find out new topics. As long as there are enough sub forums so that new postings are able to live a day or 2 before been over taken and then put on page 2.
I think with the amount of sub fora that are here now, you will see some postings that will not be updated by new posts and people will lose interest in that particular sub-forum.It is nice to see all computer chess related topics on 1 or maybe 2 pages at most.

I think General Topics, programming, and engine tourns is ideal - no sub-forums, no help forum. See how that goes and only add more if really necessary.

Once this changes, it's hard to change it back. How about:
Jeremy
[Forum Announcements] General Software (incl. engines, guis, opening books, etc.) OS Subforums (I think that these are important) Hardware (incl. chess hardware + pc hardware/overclocking) Tournaments & Matches Correspondence Matches (let's keep these games out of the general tournaments) Programming & Technical Clone Detection (it might be nice to keep this discussion separate, but I'm not committed to this) Help & Suggestions
