Patricia 2.0 chess engine

Post by Gator007 » Thu Apr 04, 2024 12:58 pm

https://github.com/Adam-Kulju/Patricia This engine is being heatedly discussed as the most aggressive chess engine (there is a lengthy thread over on Talkchess). I just plugged in Kupreichik-Tal Sochi 1970 and it was the only engine to find the 16 Nd5 knight sac by Kupreichik. I did try several much stronger engines and they all chose Na4, which is probably the best, but this engine is, at least, worth a look.

My pleasure!! Like I wrote earlier there is are discussions about Patricia on talkchess and CSS that are worth reading. The Talkchess thread has some examples and a fair bit of commentary by the engine's author. There is also a section on Pohl's website.

I had to test this fun engine. Generally I like its style, but I must admit it sometimes looks weird. There is a lot of aggressiveness, but not much tactic in it. There are some bugs too.
r2qk2r/p3nppp/2pb4/7b/3p4/5N1P/PPP2PP1/RNBQR1K1 w kq - 0 7 - Patricia liked Qxd4?
5b1k/p7/q5rp/4p2Q/2r1N3/1R5P/1R3PP1/6K1 w - - 0 33 - Patricia played Qf5??, during analysis it chose Rb8??
8/7q/8/4b3/2k5/4RK2/8/6q1 b - - 0 72 - Patricia resigned?
These 3 example positions are from only 13 games Patricia played in my test tournament. I did not find any bigger problems in other 10 games, but also I did not find anything interesting to post here, in the 14th game the engine was unstable and crashed. I hope we will see improved next version soon.

Adam is trying to produce a very high EAS. That is his objective.

See here.
