Re: Alpha Zero

... So each doubling of the hash size might only give 5-8 Elo ... I don't think there is any doubt that AlphaZero must have performed at the Stockfish level or better. Which was the only purpose; it is completely irrelevant whether it performed 90 Elo better or 100 Elo better..
One of my ...

Re: Alpha Zero

It's been a while since I've posted anything of content on computer chess, but the Alpha Zero work has prodded me to change that.

Although I am quite impressed by the result, and moreover that they achieved it via tabula rasa (as they call it), they have (after all) written a scientific paper on it ...

Alpha Zero

The game of chess is the most widely-studied domain in the history of artificial intelligence. The strongest programs are based on a combination of sophisticated search techniques, domain-specific adaptations, and handcrafted evaluation functions that have been refined by human experts over several ...

Anand: computer revolutionized the Giuoco Piano

"The Italian is one area where you can say the computer revolutionized it. It seems that we gave up way too early."

Shogi: Ponanza finishes 2-0 sweep of Sato (Meijin)

Amahiko Sato beat the legendary Habu for the Meijin title last year (he is currently tied 2-2 in a best-of-7 with Akira Inaba this year), but was soundly defeated by the computer program Ponanza. The first game was April 1, and the latter just recently on May 20. I think it was realized the result ...

— Одолеть компьютер в XXI веке невозможно?

— Шахматисты развиваются, но угнаться за техникой действительно нереально. Компьютер просчитывает сто миллионов вариантов в секунду. А что может человек? Он, конечно, способен разработать варианты ...

Kramnik: computers 2 or 3 times better, humans 5-10%
