Re: Stopping the Hyattian-Triumvirate
I would respectfully suggest that it might it be better to talk things out over a phone call or lunch (if you're in the same city) rather than airing these arguments here.

The ones I have seen have all been GM's or WGM's playing simuls (Alexandria Kosteniuk, for example). But in club play, my experience ...

Re: Is decompilation legal?
This is reminiscent of the SCO vs. IBM lawsuit where SCO claimed that some of their proprietary code was integrated into early versions of Linux.
As far a disassembling the code, Vas is right. Compilation of computer code is, by its nature, a destructive (or "entropy-increasing") process. It would ...

Re: What is the best online tactics trainer?
They all have their plusses and minuses. Personally I like chesstempo better as ideachess tells you how many moves you have left on each problem, which isn't realistic. Re: Why does one purchase a chess engine?

Re: Why does one purchase a chess engine?
I bought, long ago, Hiarcs 9.6 because it was the best to play chess with my old palm. :D
And I recently bought Shredder 12 because :
- I could try it before buying it
- SMK answer fast to emails
- the gui is very nice
- Shredder adapts its level to mine, and doesn't answer immediatly when ...

Why does one purchase a chess engine?
Hello all. New member, first-time poster.
I'm USCF 1500 (trying to get better) and regularly use free chess engines on top of Fritz 10 for analysis. My question is: Why do folks purchase chess engine packages such as Rybka and Hiarcs? What features do these commercial products offer that I would ...
