John McCarthy has passed away

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/10/24/father_lisp_ai_john_mccarthy_dies/

Last night, John McCarthy passed away at the age of 84. While best known for his work in developing the LISP programming language and the understanding of AI, he was also one of the early pioneers of computer chess. While I ...

Re: Infinity Chess

Few years ago, I had used ICC IIRC it was about 1950 online in the weekend, while Playchess had 3500... This was before chesscube came into existence. Now it's 1100 as against ~2300 in playchess, and ~1900 in chesscube.

I had read it elsewhere (maybe in chat discussion?) that ICC had decided to ...

Re: Infinity Chess

Oh yes. I believe chesscube has gained number of members over the past few years while ICC saw great reduction because it's too commercial or so I have heard.

Too commercial? What does that mean? They have raised the price, I think it's $70 a year, though if I was able to get a pretty hefty ...

Thanks for the links, I couldn't update mine from inside the application for some reason. I blame Windows 7.

Well, by luck, Jeremy and I are roughly equal in rating, so it should be interesting at least.

I will have the book by Friday.

Another Houdini sighting

NM Dan Heisman provides weekly videos on ICC, analysis of amateur games to help people identify their weaknesses. In the past he has used Rybka, but in his latest video, Fine Combination not Consumated, he announces he is using Houdini instead. Dan is a great teacher, his videos and books and ...

You think I'm kidding? You think it's a joke?

I've no idea why you waste my time. If you don't understand my reply to Whittington it's your inadequate reading skills.

You only have yourself to blame.

Really? Can you guys take this to private messages or something? I'm pretty sure even in ...

Re: Corus 2011

Looks like Naka just won the tournament, amazing performance. It feels very nice to have a top level US chess player again, here's hoping he continues to perform this well in the many super-GM tournaments he is likely to get invited to now.

Re: I hope Fabien Letouzey dont play their game

Wild speculation, lol. I think not. At the supermarket down the street, store managers get tickets to Broadway plays from soda distributors in order to get prime display space for their product. (These are very big name soda companies, how do you think they got so big and stay that way?)

Your ...
