Re: Rybka 4.1 Update released

For a bug-fix maintenance update, no money comes in. Therefore, unless the author/company cares about customer service, there's no reason to hurry. Besides, the time spent taking care of the customers can be better spent decompiling programs, obfuscating code, meeting with attorneys over pending ...

Re: TalkChess.com

When the domain expires, it can't be used until it's been renewed (paid for). That means that nobody can access the site by typing in the name.

It's possible that the owners decided to not continue to pay for it. I doubt this is the case, since maintaining the domain costs less than $10 per year ...

Re: Houdini 1.5 is released

Thanks for the update to this great engine. It looks like King Rybka is about to be dethroned.

Re: Where are the strong programs?

Since his income is tied to Rybka, Vas is also highly motivated to work on his engine, and be sure every part of it (opening book, etc), is taken care of.

Playing devil's advocate, updates to Rybka are rare, and that includes bug fixes. Rybka's endgame abilities could be improved; the engine ...

Re: IvanHoe 999949 Beta

Just to add, I get a set of WinRAR error messages for each zip file stating 'unknown method'?

I had the same problem with an earlier version of 7Zip. My understanding is that you need to download the current version of 7Zip, which is free. Downloading the current version of WinRar may (but ...

Re: IvanHoe 999949 Beta

Hi Tom,

The problem might be that you dont have the latest 7-zip -- try downloading 7-Zip build 9.20 dated (2010-11-18) . A couple others had similar issue but after updating the archiver, everything worked fine.

Even though I downloaded 7zip a month or so ago, I seem to have gotten build 4.65 ...

Re: IvanHoe 999949 Beta

Most of the files won't unzip using 7zip, re: "Unsupported compression method for (filename0'

This isn't a problem with other builds from the site.

Re: is there any engine better then rybka 4?

A lot of engines claim to be stronger, particularly the IP* series. The tests don't seem to bear this out.

I wouldn't know about Ivanhoe. I've never been able to get any of the various versions to work on my Win7 system.

Re: Favorite GUI?

SCID vs PC. I like the fork better, as the UI is more configurable, and I don't need the features the regular SCID has tha the fork doesn't.
