Re: 57d_whm01sse3 & IvanHoe999954

It is a very dynamic, amorphous and constantly improving project. There is no clear one best compile or release, but there may be a 'best' for your configuration. And even if there were one best, it would be overtaken in a week by a newer, better version. Once the project reaches its goal, I think ...

Re: Houdini 1.03 is available

Give the guy a break. He just released on a date he said he would. "What's next?" Wow.

Can someone tell me please which CPU_x is used for i7 920? It's 4 physical cores but 8 logical cores. So do I use 4 or 8 Houdini for my 64-bit Win7?

Creating a Gauntlet for testing

I want to create a gauntlet of top engines. Inspired by this site , I want to create a murderer's row against which I can pit a new engine to see how it stacks up. After testing, for a couple of days at 1+1, of course.

Questions:

Does it make sense to use the 'older' engines on the website? Yes ...

Re: New Stockfish 1.8 JA release?!

Has anyone actually tested it against DR4 or even 1.71 for over 100 games before giving an opinion based on fact instead of wishes?

Re: Houdini Versions

What time controls do you like to see your engine tested at, Robert? I understand the statistical reasons for thousands, not hundreds. Do you like 1+0, 1+1? Something more? What would benefit you, and against what opponent?

Thank YOU for coming up with settings like that. Must have required a lot of trial and error.

My testing mirrors yours. I used 1000 test positions for each.

Re: IvanHoe-B57c-SSE2

Your modifications increase time to solve following position. Default settings: 2 minutes. Mods: 6 minutes.

r2qrb1k/1p1b2p1/p2ppn1p/8/3NP3/1BN5/PPP3QP/1K3RR1 w - - bm e5

I see no benefit in my fast, incomplete tests for the changes.

Re: Rybka / IvanHoe / Houdini etc.

mod12c is considered the best Ivanhoe so far (or one of them). 57a has been out for less than 12 hours. If you want to know if it's better, help test it.

Speaking of tests:

1: Houdini 102_x64_POPCNT_4CPU 87.0/150 63-39-48
2: Deep Rybka 4 SSE42 x64 63.0/150 39-63-48
