Re: Gardner's minichess solved

The fact that it is theoretically a draw doesn't mean that it is not interesting to play

True, that the game is theoretically solved doesn't automatically make it less interesting in practice for human players. I was discouraged not so much by the game being solved as by this statement by BB ...

Re: Gardner's minichess solved

Damn, that's a disappointment. I was planning to release an iOS app for this game next year on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Gardner's birth. With this news, it's hard to find the motivation.

Re: Loop 2007 / Fruit 2.1

You might want to ask Tord Romstad. http://www.open-aurec.com/wbforum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6266&p=29875#p29875

I've seen some snippets of Loop's code, but never the entire program. There is nothing in those snippets I have seen that is interesting for this discussion.

(I recall Tord later ...

Re: Programmers Open Letter to ICGA on Rybka/Fruit

By the way, this thread proves that you need to block the possibility to use colored text on this message board.

It doesn't. If someone uses scissors to hurt someone else, does it mean we should put a ban on scissors? What about all their other uses?

Hopefully MichaelIsGreat can be restricted to ...

Re: Programmers Open Letter to ICGA on Rybka/Fruit

Now that the letter is signed and sent to the ICGA, I should probably let the ICGA do its work and refrain from making too many comments in public, but it seems to be necessary to clarify a few misunderstandings:

Fruit was the strongest chess engine at the time its source was closed, and I ...

Re: Programmers Open Letter to ICGA on Rybka/Fruit

Most interesting to me is that people like Tord (see http://www.stmintz.com/ccc/index.php?id=467224) and Don have changed their views on this.

Not one of my proudest moments. I was simply dead wrong. Happens to most of us sometimes.

By the way, this thread proves that you need to block the ...

Fabien's open letter to the community

My good friend Fabien Letouzey, author of Fruit, asked me to post the following message for him:

Hello,

Long time no see.

First, I am not back to computer chess, sorry about that. I just want to clarify a few things. Sorry if that's old but there is some misunderstanding I need to fix, and I ...

Re: Stockfish 2.01 FRC works only in Shredder Classic.

Arena won't work because Arena doesn't support FRC as specified in the UCI protocol. They insist on using their own, non-standard FRC extensions to the UCI protocol, rather than following the standard. The Arena guys came up with their FRC extensions at a time when UCI didn't yet have any FRC ...

Re: Stockfish 2.0 Available

I had a short encounter with Tord on chessbomb during recent London Chess Classic tournament and was a little disappointed when he responded to my query about EGTB support that there were no current plans.

As far as I know, nobody has yet found a way to use EGTBs effectively. It seems to me that ...

Re: Stockfish for iPad

Hi Tord, I wish there was an arrow key at the bottom to take back moves, go forward. It's bit of an effort to click "Move" tab and then click take back when I want to go back several moves.

As you may have noticed, there isn't a lot of free space for additional buttons, but you don't have to go ...
