Re: PST of Fruit 2.1 and Rybka 1.0 Beta
I also consider it a challenge to find a 2005-era engine (on any engine which is not specifically Fruit-influenced) whose PST can be replicated via a set of modifications that is comparable to the smallness of the Rybka/Fruit difference.
Only Rybka alone would produce the PST values to be that ...

Except that there _is_ copied code from fruit, so this pig won't fly. Your basic premise has already been violated (very much NOT to reuse code...) The argument has been that rybka used bitboards, fruit did not, so that it would be impossible to copy code. That is pure nonsense. Search won't ...

Re: Why Is Houdini Not Entered In The WCCC??
It's actually not that funny. First of all, I have not seen code snippets posted by Lance. Further more, would you be willing to let me examine the source code of the initial release of Houdini? If not me, would you allow BB+, Zach Wegner, or anyone else? I have no dog in the fight, call things as ...

Re: Why So much Tension
If you sincerely want to enter "the Kingdom of Heaven" you have to be like a child - which means you have to give up many many things of grave concern. The Kingdom of Heaven and the domain of chess, the domain of dispute don't seem to intersect; except the latter two.

Re: POLL: Whether Houdini Is A Clone?
I think I made a mistake; Bob Hyatt's definition of clones and derivatives should be appropriate:-
"clone" - don't talk about it, a low class job; takes the binary and changes a few strings with a debugger. The only commendable thing about the cloner is he knows how to use a debugger to change ...

Re: POLL: Whether Houdini Is A Clone?
First, terminology.
"Clone" is an exact copy of a program. Usually produced by taking a .exe file (windows) and using a debugger to change key strings such as the program name, so that its origin will remain hidden. This has been done many times, particularly on chess servers.
"Derivative" is a ...

Re: Why Is Houdini Not Entered In The WCCC??
Robert Houdart said "...Houdini is all my development...". There should not be any doubt about the usual interpretation of the statement - that it is an original work written from scratch without any cut-and-paste from any illegitimate sources (here usually mean Ipp*).
It is not unusual that a ...
