Re: David Levy responds to Chessbase's response to ICGA verd

Sure didn’t live up to the explosive hype forecast by some. In spite of the obvious attempts to inflate the issue and inject innuendo, Dr. Levy remained clear and direct.

Re: Vas Speaks in Tongues

OK, thanks for clearing that up for me. I knew it would do an automatic conversion, but I sure thought a good complier these days would assist by warning to insure that is truly the intent. Explains how it got by and how damn careful the C programmer has to be (with great power comes great ...

Re: Why I Joined OpenChess

Another thing that seems heartbreaking to me, TalkChess isolates itself from all search engines…even the “public” forums. There is a large wealth of CC programming ideas and information that many beginners may never find; it certainly won’t be the first place they locate without stumbling on a ...

Re: Vas Speaks in Tongues

The infamous “0.0”, “0.” or “.0” (depending on how one wants to present it) issue keeps popping up. Re: Vas Speaks in Tongues

I would add Rybka to the list of engines making money on open-source. Yes Vas made improvements, but much of that in the beginning came from cobbling together open-source code while gathering clarification and ideas in discussions with other authors who did not know his intentions. Then he grabbed ...

Re: Copyright, Plagiarism and Piracy.

I couldn’t get to the FBI site last night (most likely because of the Anonymous DDoS attacks) to see the actual MegaUpload charges (I hate how little time we have to edit our posts, timed-out on me again). This is certainly going to be an interesting case.

SOPA was brought up in the Southern ...

Re: Copyright, Plagiarism and Piracy.

YouTube is currently covered under Title II (safe harbor) of the DMCA . Many thousands are removed everyday, even through automation. If no one complains, they live (at least for awhile anyway).

Here’s an excellent read concerning the proposed legislation: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/01/18 ...

Re: Copyright, Plagiarism and Piracy.

Forgot to mention the Megaupload developments today, nice timing guaranteed to add fuel to the fire. Since there was no search function to discover content directly, purportedly the indictment claims this is evidence to “conceal the scope of its infringement.”

Will Dropbox be next?
